This par 72 championship golf course is an exciting challenge for any golfer. Striding to the first tee it stretches around you, undulating fairways and lush grass as far as the eye can see, enchanting lakes and an ocean of bunkers.
Abbeyleix Golf Club: The new 18 hole course at Abbeyleix is fast developing a reputation as one of the best courses in the midlands. Designed by the well known Golf Architect Mel Flanigan, the new 18 hole layout will prove a fair test of Golf for players of all categories.
The old 9 hole course was recognised as one of the best 9 hole courses in the country and now having obtained an adjacent piece of rolling terraine which contains many specimen mature trees, the new 18 holes ensures enjoyable golf with many scenic views.
Mountrath Golf Club: Founded in 1929 and affiliated to Golfing Union of Ireland since 1932. Originally a 9 hole course, it was extended to 18 holes in 1994. Golfers will relish its fine, long fairways and well manicured greens and stunning views of the Slieve Bloom Mountains and Higgins Grove.
In 2004 on the 75th Anniversary of the founding of Mountrath Club the Committee of Management embarked on plans for a fitting Club House which would complement our now excellent course. This has come to fruition in the spring of 2007 with the opening of the new club-house. Mountrath Golf Club now has a state of the art clubhouse which blends harmoniously with its surroundings.
Portlarlington Golf Club: Features a marvellous golf course situated on mature parkland. This course measures almost six thousand metres in length. This golf club was founded way back in 1908 and began offering its services with only nine holes. The course was extended to 18 holes in 1987 and is now par 71
River Barrow on this course acts as a pretty ruthless water hazard and makes playing the closing holes a very tough challenge. The course is designed by renowned golf course architect Eddie Hackett who has utilized the local terrain to bring golfers an experience that they won't soon forget.
The Heath Golf Club: Golf has been played on the Heath since the 1890's and the present club dates from 1930. The course is laid out on open heathland, incorporating three natural lakes and was the first Laois Club to extend to 18 holes over thirty years ago with par 71.
Furze features prominently on many holes and the course is a plaze of yellow from early Spring onwards. Facilities available include a 10-bay driving range, lake-side putting green and two practice areas as well as a magnificent clubhouse opened 10 years ago.
Often described as an "inland links" the Heath offers a unique challenge to all levels of golfer.
